CHENNAI: Minister for Tourism S Gokula Indira distributed free laptops to students of Dwaraka Doss Goverdhan Doss Vaishnav College at Arumbakkam here on Wednesday. More than 800 students received the laptops as part of the second phase of an ambitious scheme that was launched in the college last month. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Gokula Indira said that Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had shown keen interest in quality education. Adding that a slew of projects and schemes for people from all walks of life were being announced on a daily basis, she said that the CM had announced that community, income and nativity certificates would be issued to students in the sixth standard itself from the current academic year. This will help the student community at large, she said. She urged the students to make the best use of the free laptops. Also present on the occasion was Principal of the college Dr S Narasimhan.
