The special investigation team (SIT) of the Karnataka Police has registered another case of sexual harassment against Prajwal Revanna, the former Janata Dal Secular (JDS) MP from Hassan, who has been booked in three other cases of sexual assailt.
In the fourth first information report (FIR) Revanna, 33, has been booked for sexual harassment, stalking, criminal intimidation, and clandestinely recording and sharing images of the survivor. Three others — former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA from Hassan Preetham Gowda, Kiran and Sharath — have also been named in the FIR. Police sources said Gowda has been accused of sharing images that Revanna allegedly recorded during the course of sexual harassment of a survivor on a video call.
The survivor filed a complaint stating the recording of the sexual harassment and sharing of the clip has caused embarrassment and loss of image for her whole family.
The fourth FIR has been registered under Indian Penal Code sections 354(A) (sexual harassment), 354(D) (stalking), 354(B) (using criminal force to disrobe woman), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 66 E of the Information Technology Act (violation of privacy).
THE OTHER THREE FIRS
The first FIR was filed on May 1, after a 44-year-old former ZP and JDS member accused Revanna of raping her multiple times over the past three years and videotaping the alleged acts. The FIR was filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) based on her statement.
In the second case, Revanna and his father have been booked based on a complaint of sexual harassment by a woman on April 28. In her complaint, the survivor has accused the father of “coercing her to have a sexual relationship" with Revanna.
In the third case, Satish Babbana, a close aide of Revanna, has been accused of allegedly kidnapped a former house help at the behest of Revanna twice. Raju, the help’s son and complainant, said that she was among the several victims seen in the alleged sex tapes released in pen drives.
As the allegations surfaced, Revanna had fled India on April 27, and returned from Germany on May 31, after which he was arrested. A Bengaluru court has remanded him in judicial custody till July 8. The SIT has received his four-day custody in the fourth FIR, so he will be brought back to the SIT office from the Parappana Agrahara jail for further investigation.
