Four women, pimp held for flesh trade

Katpadi police arrested five persons, including a pimp, for indulging in flesh trade and remanded them, on Tuesday.

Acting on a tip-off Superintendent of Police I Eswaran directed Deputy Superintendent of Police of Vellore S Dhakshinamoorthy to conduct a raid in Bharathi Nagar. A team led by the DSP conducted the raid and arrested Indira (45) of Bharathi Nagar, Vasanthi (32), Valarmathi (26), Ananthi (27) and Mani (40), a pimp, for indulging in flesh trade. A case was registered against them under section 3, 4 and 7of Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act 1956. While Mani was lodged in the Vellore Central Prison for Men, the four others were remanded in the Special Prison for Women at Thorapadi.

Illegal Sale of Crackers

Five persons were arrested for selling crackers without proper licence in Gudiyattam. They were held during a special drive, on Tuesday. A special team, following a direction from Superintendent of Police I Eswaran, launched a drive against cracker units function without proper licence and safety measures, in Gudiyattam and Pallikonda area. The team arrested five persons — Thayumanavar (60), Kalimullah (43), Meyyappan (50) and Ajijillah (47) of Gudiyattam and Subramani (65) of Pallikonda. Cases were registered against them under section 286 of IPC and they were remanded in prison.

Five Surrender

Five persons surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate Court-V in Vellore on Wednesday, in connection with the murder of a notorious rowdy in Royapuram police station, in Chennai on October 1.

Yuvaraj (32) of Tiruvottiyur, Charles (32) of Royapuram, Babu (26) of Triplicane, Dicky (alias) Adaikkal Raj (40) of Tiruvottiyur and Rajan (39) of Kasimedu surrendered before the Magistrate of JM-V in connection with the murder case of Francis (41), a notorious rowdy. He was hacked to death on Monday at West Madha Koil Street near Royapuram, said the police.

The magistrate directed police to remand them under judicial custody in the Vellore Central Prison for Men till October 15.

Goondas Act Invoked

Vaniyambadi Taluk police detained a 28-year-old history-sheeter, Gowri Sankar, under Goondas Act in the Vellore Central Prison for Men. The police served the detention order to the prison administration on Tuesday.

According police, Gowri Sankar, a resident of Ceylon Colony in Ammapettai, in Salem district, was arrested on August 7 for robbing Devandiran of Omakuppam, at knife point. He was also involved in a robbery and vehicle theft case in Vaniyambadi Taluk police limit.

Following the recommendation from SP of Vellore I Eswaran, District Collector P Sankar had passed an order to book Gowri Sankar under Goondas Act on September 30, said the police.
