New Delhi: The Union Cabinet Secretary will now have a definite tenure of three years while Defence Secretary, Home Secretary and the Heads of IB and CBI will have a minimum tenure of two years.
This was approved by the Union Cabinet at its meeting on Thursday chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi said.
He said the Secretary of Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) will also have a minimum tenure of two years. Dasmunsi, however, said that this would not be applicable in the case of superannuation.
The Cabinet also approved dissolution of the Governing Council of the National Sample Survey Organisation (NSSO), he said.
Dasmunsi said the National Statistical Commission will regulate the entire statistical system including that of NSSO, which was hitherto being performed by the Governing Council.
The Cabinet gave its approval for setting up of a National Rainfed Area Authority which will provide the much-needed knowledge for rainfed agriculture.
