Five persons, including four brothers, were sentenced to life imprisonment in an 18-year-old murder case by a Vaishali district court on Thursday.

Five persons, including four brothers, were sentenced to life imprisonment in an 18-year-old murder case by a Vaishali district court on Thursday.

Additional District Judge-1, Brajendra Kumar Tiwary found the five guilty of the murder of Jandhari Paswan, who was found hanging from a tree on May 4, 1996, at Atma village under Patepur police station of the district.

Besides awarding them life sentence, the judge slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of the convicts.

According to prosecution, Paswan was murdered because of his old enmity with the four brothers -- Kamendra Singh, Rajkumar Singh, Upendra Singh, Shiv Chandra Singh.

The fifth convict was Veer Chandra Singh. Apart from various sections of the IPC, provisions of the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was imposed on the accused.

The case was tried by Special Court meant for SC and ST.
