A fresh complaint of land grabbing was filed against Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s son, Karthi Chidambaram, and his wife Nalini, on charges such as forgery, land grabbing, violation of CRZ regulations and illegal reclamation of land, at Karikattukuppam village, off the East Coast Road (ECR).
The complainant, president of South Indian Fishermen Federation Jaya Palayan, accused Karthi of grabbing about 12 acres of land, of which six acres did not have proper documentation, and the remainder was grazing and poramboke land. He added that of the land encroached, four acres belonged to a woman, which was sold to Karthi without her cognizance.
By fencing the land, which is located close to a tidal-affected waterway, the accused violated the coastal regulation zone rules. He claims that while the revenue records named Nalini as the owner, the corresponding documents in the registrar office are blank. “We have petitioned the district collector, the chief minister and other ministers in this regard as the violations are multi-faceted. The RDO of Chengalpattu conceded that he could not take any action as he would be shunted out,” he said, demanding a probe into the issue.
