The first day of the discussion on the Motion of Thanks on the Governor's address in the first session of the newly-elected Chhattisgarh legislative assembly on Wednesday witnessed some noisy scenes.
Soon after the discussion started, ruling party members, including Chief Minister Raman Singh, took a strong exception to "a derogatory" remark made by Opposition member on former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The remark was later expunged by the Speaker Gaurishankar Agrawal.
BJP MLA Devjibhai Patel, who moved the motion of thanks, said that Governor Shekhar Dutt's address covered all aspects of developmental activities undertaken by the state government. He also advised the bureaucrats to "know their limits" and respect elected representatives, who, he said, rank above in protocol, higher than even the Chief Secretary.
Opposition members Satyanarayan Sharma, Bhupesh Baghel, Amarjeet Bhagat and Kawasi Lakma interrupted him as he spoke about achievements of the previous BJP government.
Congress MLA Bhupesh Baghel accused the ruling BJP of betraying the farmers by making false promise of giving Rs 2,100/quintal support price for paddy, ahead of the November polls.
Most farmers were not event registered with authorities and could not sell their paddy, he said.
He also talked about crime situation, saying that there was increase in cases of rape, missing girls, in recent years.
Ruling party members Rajesh Munat, Ajay Chandrakar, Prem Prakash Pandey, Ramsevak Paikra and others countered the opposition's allegations that state was taking credit for Centre's schemes, and there was increase in migration and crime against women.
The house was adjourned at about 6.30 pm.
