Kolkata: In a reference to the mythological superhero, director duo Sudeshna Roy-Abhijit Guha now brings the mediev Hercules to the contemporary Bengal casting Saswata Chatterjee in the lead.
"A man of bigger and greater magnitude resides within the self of a person. This is called trapping or caging your inner strength within yourself," Abhijit Guha told PTI here. Guha and Roy, having gifted a string of low budget but clean, intelligent romantic and comedy tales to the Bengali audience for past several years, said "In Hercules the shadow looms bigger than the real self. As the bigger a man becomes the shadow grows in proportion."
"All of us are living under some sorts of pressure. We are internalizing the same or trying to and Hercules never bends or will he!"
About the reason behind casting Saswata Chatterjee in the role of Hercules, resembling the features of a buffalo, Guha said, "Apu happens to be one of the best actors of Bengal. And we love to see serious things from a comic perspective in life."
Terming Jodi Love Dile Naa Praane as a sabeki galpo (classic tale), he said "It was a challenge to make a film on romance dating back to 20 years and stitching that with a contemporary love tale" and the success vindicates if there is freshness, novelty and narrative skill, the film will connect, for retro or contemporary both genre of audiences.
"We believed in making a film which will not travel the trodden path and still we believed in hooking the audiences of Bengal here and elsewhere. So Jodi Love Dile Na Praane will now be screened in Singapore. Happy that I am attending world premieres of two Bengali films in a gap of one month - Royal Bengal Tiger and now Jodi Love Dile Naa," Byomkesh and now Feluda actor Abir Chatterjee said.
National awardee Ananya Chatterjee and Arjun Chakraborty also starred in the film.
