After the shocking incident from a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur district where the bodies of two girls were found hanging from a tree after they were allegedly raped, the father of one of the victims was found dead.
The 45-year old man died by suicide and as per a video statement by the police, his body was recovered from the Hamirpur district on Wednesday afternoon.
As per an NDTV report, the body was given to the family after conducting a routine post-mortem and his last rites were performed with the presence of the police at their village. Meanwhile, the son has filed a police case.
According to the deceased father’s kin, he died allegedly by suicide as the accused’s family members were threatening them to compromise on the rape case. The man’s body was found hanging from a tree nearly two kms away from his home.
Hamirpur’s Superintendent of Police (SP) Deeksha Sharma confirmed the suicide, while adding that the reason behind the same has not been ascertained yet.
The SP said in a video statement, “After receiving a complaint from the family members, action will be taken in the case in accordance with the law.”
Reacting to this incident, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took to X to condemn the horrific crime. She said, “Two minor girls, victims of gang rape, committed suicide in Kanpur. Now the father of those girls has also committed suicide. It is alleged that pressure was being put on the victim’s family to compromise.”
She further said, “In Uttar Pradesh, if victimized girls and women ask for justice, it has become a rule to destroy their families. From Unnao, Hathras to Kanpur – wherever women were tortured, their families were destroyed. Being a woman has become a crime in this jungle raj where there is no such thing as law left.”
In a shocking incident, two girls were found hanging from a tree near the brick kiln in a village in Ghatampur Kotwali, Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh. The incident came days after the two girls were allegedly gang-raped by the contractor of the brick kiln, his son and nephew.
According to the families of the victims, the accused had also made a video of the act to blackmail the girls due to which they took the extreme step on Wednesday, police informed.
