A family from Bengaluru had adorned their Ganesha idol with a gold chain but forgot to remove it before immersion. The family searched for it tirelessly for 10 hours and finally recovered the ornament.
According to a Times of India report, the incident occurred near Dasarahalli Circle in Vijayanagar, Bengaluru. A couple, Ramaiya and Uma Devi, had installed a Ganpati idol at their home, on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.
In addition to decorating the idol with flowers and jewellery, the couple also offered a 60-gram gold chain, valued at around Rs 4 lakh, to the deity.
On Saturday night, the couple went to a mobile tank to immerse the deity. After completing the ritual, they realized they had forgotten to remove the gold chain from the idol.
An hour later, the couple returned to the immersion site to search for their gold necklace. Some youths who were present at the tank during the immersion mentioned that they had seen the chain but thought that it was fake. The couple then contacted the Magadi Road Police Station and Govindraj Nagar MLA Priya Krishna for help.
The MLA spoke with Lankesh D, the contractor who had set up the tank. Despite efforts by the boys near the tank to search for the chain, it could not be found. Ultimately, the family was granted permission to drain out the tank containing 10,000 liters of water.
The search for the gold chain continued until the next day amidst the soil remnants from other Ganesha idols. The ornament was finally found and returned to the couple. Approximately 10 people were involved in the search operation.
