TIRUPUR: A woman was arrested here on Wednesday for posing as a police constable and duping a woman of her 4.5 sovereign gold chain.According to police sources, a few months ago, Loorthurani (37), a resident of Rayapuram, met Jeba alias Jebarani (23) at a church on Kumaran Road.Claiming to be a police constable, Jeba befriended Loorthurani, who was a regular at the church.On January 23 last year, claiming that she wanted to attend a marriage function, Jeba asked Loorthurani whether she could borrow her 4.5 sovereign chain. An unsuspecting Loorthurani handed over the chain to Jeba. However, even as a long time passed, Jeba did not return the chain nor was she seen at the church again.Recently, Loorthurani filed a complaint against Jeba with the Tirupur North police. On Wednesday, a special police team picked up Jeba from the Tirupur New Bus Stand.Inquiry revealed that Jeba, a native of Cheranmadevi in Tirunelveli district, was staying with Sasidaran, a garment manufacturing unit worker who was already married, at Thiruneelakandapuram. Jeba reportedly came to Tirupur in search of a job.They got the house by introducing themselves as brother and sister. Jeba reportedly told her neighbours that she was a police constable.Police suspect that she could be involved in similar cases of cheating. A case has been registered.
