A day after the sealing of PRP Exports for illegal quarrying, the rural police on Friday arrested the former manager of Olympus Granites, Manikandan.

Police has already registered the First Information Report against Durai Dhayanidhi, son of Union Chemicals Minister Alagiri, and Nagaraj, both partners in Olympus Granites. While Dhayanidhi’s anticipatory bail plea is pending in court, police have arrested Manikandan, who was the manager of Olympus Granite during 2010.

Former collector U Sagayam in his whistle blowing report to the Government pointed out that Olympus Granites had quarried illegally to the extent of approximately 1825 cubic metre of granite, which was worth Rs 5.47 crore, in Keelavalavu village.

“Manikandan served as manager when Dhayanidhi was the partner of Olympus Granites,” said a senior police officer.

Meanwhile, following a call from an unidentified person, who informed that a gang was trying bury the unaccounted money and documents in the lands adjacent to PRP Exports, the cops returned to ground zero on Thursday night to check if any such attempt was being made. However, the information turned out to be false.

On the second day of the inspection, around 10 teams from various departments were involved in the survey to mark and identify the government land.

Meanwhile, staff of the PRP Exports on Friday were sent back to their native places by the management. The employees, who were moving in batches, lamented, “We are worried about our certificates. The management recruited us only after collecting our original degree certificates.”
