Earth caves in, close shave for labourers

ROURKELA: Workers engaged in a civil construction work at Uditnagar here on Thursday had a narrow escape after the sidewall along with huge mound of earth caved in.The owner of the plot facing the main road was carrying out earth digging work to construct an underground floor. On Thursday morning, some workers are engaged in earth digging and removal works at a depth of at least 20 feet below the road surface. All off a sudden, part of the boundary wall of the approach road to the Shanti Memorial Hospital along with heavy mound of earth collapsed. However, none was injured. Rourkela ADM and Rourkela Development Authority secretary PC Pathi rushed to the spot and ordered stopping of construction work and reconstruction of the safety wall of the road.  In October last year, two women labourers of a sponge iron plant at the Bonai sub-division were buried alive in similar way.
