TIRUPUR: Police on Tuesday arrested a minibus driver who caused an accident injuring 43 people and registered cases against him under seven Sections, including rash driving. Police sources said the bus met with an accident at Vanjipalayam on Tuesday morning and 43 passengers, including 25 students, got injured. Though driver Umakanth (29) fled the scene, he was arrested in the night.Subsequently, the Tirupur Rural Police registered cases against Umakanth under various Sections, including Sec 279 for rash driving, Sec 337 for causing hurt, Sec 338 for causing grievous hurt, Sec 304 r/w 511 of the IPC for attempting to cause death by negligence, Sec 3(1) of Tamil Nadu Property (Prevention and Damage of Loss) Act, 1992, for damaging public property and Sec 177 of the Motor Vehicle Act for using mobile phone while driving. He was later remanded in custody.
