Even Gods, not to speak of the judiciary, have not answered the prayers of hundreds of supporters of YSR Congress chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy who have been conducting special pujas for his release on bail.
As the news of the dismissal of Jagan’s bail petition by the Supreme Court trickled in, a sense of gloom engulfed the Jagan camp on Friday.
Several leaders said they were disappointed while many sympathisers said they were uncertain about the party’s future.
Sources in the party said that for the last several days party honorary president YS Vijayalakshmi, Parliament member Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy and other leaders have been participating in special prayers held for grant of bail to Jagan.
While jagan is languishing in jail and his bail applications being rejected one after the other, Congress and Telugu Desam leaders have embarked on mass contact programmes and sharpened their attacks on Jagan by pointing to his alleged economic offences.
Strangely, YSRCP leaders have failed to effectively counter the charges.
The party failed to enthuse the cadre by giving it an action programme.
All it had hoped was that Jagan, if released on bail, would resume his Odarpu Yatra to attract the voters.
“If Jagan continues to face legal hurdles in court, that might create more problems to party’’ admitted a party leader.
YSRCP spokesman Gattu Ramachandar Rao said the Congress and TDP colluded against Jagan and alleged that Union finance minister P.
Chidambaram directed the Enforcement Directorate to attach Jagan’s properties worth `51 crore after receiving a memorandum from a delegation of TDP MPs.
It was the real quid pro quo case involving the Congress and the TDP, he remarked.
Rao said Congress and TD wished that Jagan should not get bail while they went about strengthening their own parties in the state.
“Even though Jagan is in jail, Congress and TDP leaders are coming forward to join the YSRCP.
The flow will only increase in the coming days,’’ he said.
