Juan Martin del Potro beat Adrian Mannarino 2-6, 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 to move into the second round.
Melbourne: Former US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro has maintained his record of never losing in the first round at the Australian Open, beating France's Adrian Mannarino 2-6, 6-1, 7-5, 6-4 on Monday.
Del Potro, who won the US Open in 2009 but was forced to take most of 2010 off with a right wrist injury, has never lost in the first round in six appearances at Melbourne Park.
Mannarino had beaten del Potro in their only previous head-to-head, in two tiebreak sets on grass at Queen's last year.
Monday's match was delayed at 5-1 with a set point for del Potro in the second set when an ill spectator was taken from the lower stands at Hisense Arena.
