BHUBANESWAR: Is Maoist interlocutor Dandapani Mohanty softening his stand towards the BJD? Only last week, while suspending the negotiations, he had slammed the BJD for playing with Chasi Mulia Adivasi Sangha (CMAS). On Monday, he trained his guns on the Congress and said the national party was responsible for the oppression in Narayanpatna. Mohanty said the Congress had been after him, as joint advisor of CMAS, for a tie-up in the panchayat polls. The CMAS candidates elected uncontested in six GPs and emerged winners in three while Juro Maoka of the Sangha was victorious in Narayanpatna Zilla Parishad (ZP) zone. Since both the BJD and the Congress had 14 seats each, he said, they wanted Maoka’s support to win ZP president election. When the Congress leaders pressed him for CMAS support, the outfit wanted certain assurances. “We wanted the party to stage a dharna before Raj Bhawan and seek a judicial inquiry into the November 20, 2009, firing in front of Narayanpatna police station in which two agitators were killed,” he said. Besides, CMAS wanted the Rule (2) of the Land Reforms Act, 1956, be amended. Instead of agreeing to the demands, Leader of the Opposition Bhupinder Singh and MLA Prafulla Majhi are now misleading the public through their statements, he said. Mohanty was hinting at the demand for CBI inquiry by the national party into tie-up between the BJD and the CMAS. The CMAS, he said, is a democratic outfit and not linked with Maoists. He said it was the oppressive and anti-poor policies of the Congress which led to Operation Greenhunt. Mohanty also went a step further and said arrest of Gananath Patra, advisor of CMAS, was because of the Congress’ policies although the BJD too was responsible. Pressed, he said the Congress and the BJD are two sides of the same coin. A few days back, he had said despite BJD legislators’ 10-point memorandum to the Chief Minister to give justice to CMAS following the tie-up, repression continued in Narayanpatna.
