Dalai Lama needs rest, treatment: Doctors
Doctors said there was no cause for concern and that he only needed rest.

Mumbai: Doctors at the Lilavati Hospital & Research Centre, where Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, is undergoing 'medical examination', said on Friday that there was no cause for concern and the Dalai Lama only needed rest and medical treatment.

Certain medical tests were conducted on Friday on the Nobel peace laureate, according to a hospital spokesman.

The Dalai Lama was brought to the hospital on Thursday following 'abdominal discomforts' but doctors said on Friday that “there is no cause for concern at present.”

“All he needs is good rest and medical treatment,” the spokesman for the hospital added.

The Dalai Lama will also join the 12-hour fasting and prayers for peace and freedom that are being organised in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh and in other places Saturday by the Tibetan Solidarity Committee.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, called on the ailing leader at the hospital and enquired after his health on Friday.

In view of the scheduled medical examination, the Dalai Lama had cancelled all his programmes, including forthcoming visits to Mexico and Dominican Republic, an aide said in Dharamsala on Thursday.

Earlier this month, he had come for a check-up at the same hospital before leaving for a 12-day religious tour of France.
