KOTTAYAM: The CPI on Friday said that the party’s priority in the coming days would be to revive the units that are not active enough. At a meet-the-press programme organised by the Kottayam Press Club, CPI state secretary Panniyan Raveendran said the party had 1.12 lakh members in the state.Efforts will be taken to enrol more members and refurbish the inactive units in the state, he said.Replying to a question on the party rebuilding its office in Munnar, which was demolished during the Munnar drive, he said the CPI had all documents to establish that the land belonged to it.When asked whether it was a mistake of the LDF Government to demolish the party office, the CPI leader gave a clean chit to the then Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan. He said the party had even presented the proof of ownership in the court. To a question as to why the same drive was not being carried out now, he said it has exposed the functioning of the UDF government.Panniyan said the ruling front was hijacking the members of the Opposition to keep the UDF in power at any cost.“The credibility of people like Selvaraj has come to light after he backed out from his stand that he would not contest from Neyyattinkara. All those who left the LDF were lured by the ruling front,” he said.Training his guns on the UDF, Panniyan said the UDF Government was ruling as per the diktats of the IUML.He said the government was budging to all the demands, greed and adamancy of the IUML.He also criticised the Congress for not speaking on the Calicut University land issue.
