JHARSUGUDA: The role of Brajrajnagar Police has come under scanner after they claimed to have arrested the Deputy Director, State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Bhubaneswar, Srikant Paikray and then released him on bail. He was charged with sexual misconduct by five girls during his visit to Gandghura Upper Primary School on August 3. Villagers of Gandghura questioned the leniency of the police in dealing with the accused. They have threatened to intensify the agitation and demanded a probe into the police action. The villagers had earlier gheraoed the Gandhi Chowk outpost demanding immediate arrest of Paikray. However, on Sunday night, Brajrajnagar police station IIC Suresh Chandra Naik informed the mediapersons that Paikray had been arrested on Saturday and released on bail. Jhasketsan Sahu termed the police action as ‘hogwash’. Efforts to contact Suresh Chandra Naik and the SP proved futile.
