MANGALORE: The death of constable M S Mane in Anti Naxal Force’s encounter with Naxalites, rendered hollow the police department’s reports on decreased activity of Naxalites in Western Ghat.Besides a surprise discovery that their numbers had increased, senior police officials also suspected that Naxals were equipped with sophisticated firearms like AK47.On why the combing operation was planned at Savanal on Saturday midnight, DGP and IGP Neelam Achutha Rao said local police had information on the movement of Naxalites. Cases were booked against Vikram Gowda, Sundari, Vijay, Keerthi and others under the Arms Act.
