The Excise enforcement wing has strengthened the vigil against the production, distribution and smuggling in of illicit liquor in view of the Onam festival.
As part of this, control rooms functioning round-the-clock have been opened at the district and taluk levels.
Arrangements have been made to monitor the working of ayurvedic shops and bar hotels.
Patrolling units deployed in border areas will keep vigil against cross border trafficking of illicit spirit.
The special enforcement drive will begin from August 20. As part of preventive steps, 928 raids were conducted in the Thiruvananthapuram division.
The Excise Department had registered 136 abkari cases and six Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances(NDPS) cases and 141 people were arrested. 1,812 litre spirit, 59.5 litre arrack, 58 litre of illicit IMFL, 340 litre of IMFL, 5.903 kg of ganja, 1,075 litre ‘wash’, 109 litre of ‘arishtam’ have been seized so far, according to records. Eight vehicles were also seized during the raids.
Excise Deputy Commissioner P G Pramod Chandran, Thiruvananthapuram division said that in case the people come to know about any such activity, they may intimate the matter to the control rooms or Excise officials concerned.
