Consumers feel the pinch as flour prices go up
What's alarming is that the price has shot up despite a record wheat harvest.

New Delhi: Adding more to the woes of the common man, the price of wheat flour has shot up by at least Rs 4 per kilo in the past week. The price rise is evident almost across the country and consumers are feeling the pinch.

In Delhi, a kilo of 'atta' now costs Rs 24 as opposed to Rs 20 just a week back.

What's alarming is that the price has shot up despite a record wheat harvest.

In fact, the bumper harvest had helped propel the agriculture GDP for the quarter ended June to 2.9 per cent.

Inflation, too, had been down by 0.4 per cent in July as compared to June. However, inflation figures for August are yet to be released.
