A retired IAS officer on Friday lodged a complaint with the police against minister T G Venkatesh for asking people to ‘’shoot bureaucrats on the roads.
’’ A Rami Reddy of Medchal said that Biyala Venkata Papa Rao lodged a two-page complaint enclosing clippings from English newspapers reporting the minister’s remarks on July 13.
“We received a complaint from a retired IAS officer today against minister Venkatesh but did not register any case.
We will take legal opinion on and take necessary action.
” Sources said Papa Rao’s complaint is a tactical move by the IAS fraternity, because the chief minister is said to have taken their protest ‘’not all that seriously.
’’ Venkatesh had said at a public meeting in Kurnool that IAS officers should be shot dead for not doing any work.
The remarks triggered a strong protest from the IAS Officers Association, which took up the matter with chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy.
Venkatesh was unapologetic, stating that he had ‘meant “only non-performing IAS officers.
’’ Papa Rao stated that the minister’s remarks would incite the people against IAS officers.
The officer, who served as home secretary of Assam and worked with the United Nations, said Venkatesh’s remarks would attract action under section 189 and 124A, read with sections 107, 115, 503 and 511, of the Indian Penal Code.
He said Venkatesh’s statement clearly showed that he did not believe in the rule of law.
“Such remarks by a minister would have serious consequences for our criminal justice system,” he said.
