BANGALORE: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has decided to call a meeting of the legislators, corporators and the BBMP officials in order to prepare an action plan for improving the quality of roads in the city.“We have briefed him about the hardships being faced by the people and he has taken note of the common man’s outbursts which have come out in the form of letters to the editor in various newspapers. He has decided to call a meeting of all of us shortly to discuss how to improve the quality of roads,” Jayanagar BJP MLA B N Vijaya Kumar told Express on Wednesday. According to Vijaya Kumar, the Chief Minister is expected to direct the BBMP officials to furnish the details of the road work done in the city during the past six months or one year. “If one spell of rain can batter the roads to this bad extent, then it raises the question mark on the quality of the work. The Chief Minister, who is quality-conscious, is expected to emphasise on the quality of the work to be undertaken in accordance with the amount spent. He has also assured that the funds would not be a problem when it comes to development activities,” Vijaya Kumar added. He said, “I have prepared a detailed dossier of the bad condition of some roads in my constituency of Jayanagar including certain pictures, though by and large the quality of the roads are reasonably decent. But I want the entire constituency to live up its stature and reputation because the roads are one major factor that reflects the culture of the country.” “Going by his past feat of involving the voluntary youth organisations in rural development works and spreading literacy in his native constituency of Puttur since early 1980s, Sadananda Gowda is expected to involve the residents welfare associations in supplementing the efforts of the BBMP identifying the bad roads as well as in its improvement and maintenance. The CM wants to make the people proud partners in progress,” he added.
