HYDERABAD: To bring back the glory of classic Fiat cars and recreate interest, four enthusiasts got together to display cars like the Fiat 500, 600, 1100 and the Premier Padmini in February 2010. Thus, was born the Fiat Classic Club Hyderabad (FCCH), started by Ram Kiran, Balaji Iyengar, Surendran Bhaskaran and Shiva Kalyan. On Sunday, Fiat enthusiasts gathered to display and talk about their cars at the Begumpet airport. At 8.30 a.m, 11 cars and their owners assembled at the road that leads to the old airport. Once all members had assembled, there was an intense discussion about their prized possessions- the Fiats. Most members said their aim is to prevent the cars from going to the scrapyard. “Driving these cars gives me immense pleasure both as a driver and owner. I have founded the FCCH in 2010 to inculcate and inspire restoration, preservation and ownership of Fiat 1100s of the bygone era,” says Ram Kiran, founder, Fiat Classic Club Hyderabad. He currently owns three Fiats: the 1962 Fiat 1100 Super Select, 1969 Fiat 1100 Delight and 1999 Fiat Unoto. The event was also marked by the launch of Surya-narayana Veeramachaneni’s website — milesonfiat.com. Designed by his granddaughter, the website contains Suryanarayana and his wife Swarooparani’s travelogues on their favourite Premier Padmini 137D. Suryanarayana’s (71) enthusiasm is amazing. After his retirement, he started fulfilling his dream of travelling India on road. Other stars of the show were Siraj Attari’s Fiat 1100 (black), Tej Khan’s Fiat 1100 (dark blue) and the popular Fiat 600 owned by Sonu Singh.
