CHENNAI: An eight-member team of engineering students from here literally danced their way to emerge winners of the Robocup 2011..

CHENNAI: An eight-member team of engineering students from here literally ‘danced’ their way to emerge winners of the Robocup 2011, held in Istanbul recently.The winning team from Bharath University were honoured at the World Super Team World Championship Awards held at Istanbul. The team, comprising third and final year students from the ECE, Mechanical, Civil, Mechatronics, CSE and EEE departments of the college, represented India at ‘Robocup 2011’ organised by Bogazici University between July 5 and July 11.  They contested in three out of the 18 league competitions. They put up eight robots to battle it out at the dance contest.Ayenampudi Venkata Bhargav, one of the contestants, said, “The robots were built using the C, C++, robo+ and lejo languages. We are happy to win the contest.Others part of the winning team were Sricharan  Sabat, Akashi Nagpal, Abhishek Kumar Sharma, Sanidhya, Yuvaraj, Rajeev Ranjan and Rahul Acharjee.   This is the second time the college has emerged victorious at the competition.  As dean Kadir Viswalingam put it, “The next year’s slotting for the competition depends upon the placing this year. We hope to send more teams next year, when it will be held in Mexico.”  From the next academic year, the institution will start a B Tech course in Robotics with an intake of 150 students, the dean added.  A robotics lab would also be inaugurated in October.  An investment of  `5 crore has been made for the project.
