Chennai: Ace Indian shuttlers Chetan Anand and Saina Nehwal made it to the semifinals of the men's and women's singles event in the India Open Grand Prix with contrasting victories here on Friday.
While top seed Chetan had to did out his best to beat unseeded giant killer Chun Seang Tan of Malaysia 21-15, 19-21, 21-16 in the quarterfinal, world number six Saina thrashed compatriot Sayali Gokhale 21-4, 21-8 in women's last eight stage.
Chetan, world number 19, will now take on unseeded Yunus Alamsyah of Indonesia in the men's semifinals, while Saina's opponent in the last four stage will be Indonesian Aprilia Yuswandari, who upset Aussie Renuga Veeran 21-9, 21-6.
Among other Indians, RMV Guru Sai Dutt also entered the semifinals, upsetting title contender and second seed Malaysian Mohd Hafiz Hashim, who conceded the quarterfinal encounter in the 36th minute after he was trailing 18-21, 15-16.
Seventh seed Guru Sai Dutt will next face third seeded compatriot P Kashyap, who got the better of another Indian Anand Pawar 12-21, 21-9, 21-12.
In other women's singles quarterfinal encounters second seed Mew Choo Wong of Malaysian defeated Singaporean Jiayuan Chen 21-9, 21-17.
Mew will clash against Linda Weni Fanetri of Indonesia in the semifinals. .
