Bangalore: With the probe into the twin blasts at Chennai Central Railway Station underway, Karnataka DIG Railways B Srikantappa speaks to CNN-IBN where he says that the investigators are looking into the CCTV footages of the platforms for any further lead in the case.
"All the platforms have CCTV cameras... there are about 4 to 5. We are examining the footage since yesterday, investigation is on," said Srikantappa.
On being asked if the twin blasts had any connection with the 2013 Malleswaram blasts of Bangalore, the DIG said," some evidence is coming out.. let's see."
After the early morning blasts in Chennai, security at various railway stations was upgraded across the country. "Security has been upgraded... we are taking checking teams, bomb defusal squads... many units have been put in action."
He however, admitted that checking every single person entering a railway station was a mammoth task as he said, "We are trying our best to check as many people as possible."
The official refused to divulge any information about the nature of the explosives used in the blasts.
"A team from Tamil Nadu, headed by Mr Anbu, SP, CID is here and they are doing their job," he added.
One person was killed and 14 injured after blasts went off on the Bangalore-Guwahati Express when it had made an halt at the Chennai station. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had ordered the CB-CID and SIT probe into the blasts together with the Railways police.
The investigators are now probing if there is any link of the blasts with a Sri Lankan national Zakir Hussain who was arrested earlier this week. He is suspected to have acted as an agent of an ISI operative in Colombo.
