With just two months left for the annual 'char dham' pilgrimage, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on Thursday said the Centre has released only Rs 74 crore out of a total of Rs 300 crore to BRO for repairing the damaged road network in the flood-ravaged areas of the state.
The char dham yatra is beginning in April-May this year.
"The sum released by the Centre for repair of roads in the affected areas ahead of the beginning of the annual yatra is only Rs 74 crore so far whereas the amount needed is Rs 300 crore," Bahuguna told reporters in Dehradun.
The chief minister said he will soon take up the issue with the Centre to help expedite release of the remaining amount to the Border Road Organisation (BRO) to speed up the reconstruction of damaged roads.
A vast network of roads around the famous Himalayan shrines of Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri was damaged in the mid June flash floods last year.
