SAMBALPUR: A four-member inter-ministerial team visited Sambalpur, Bargarh and Sonepur on Tuesday to assess the flood situation.After holding discussions with the chief engineer (Mahanadi basin) of Hirakud dam project, Nilakantha Das on water management in Hirakud dam, the team went to Sambalpur where the members interacted with the affected people. They visited Durgapali, Mandalia and Balibandha areas.Later they toured the flood-affected village of Chikli in Ambabhona block of Bargarh district. En route, they were stopped by villagers of Beniapalli at the Beniapali square as they wanted the team to assess the damage in the area for themselves.The villagers alleged before the team that Bargarh Collector Bhabagrahi Mishra and Ambabhona BDO Santosh Mishra failed in providing them relief during the flood.The team was accompanied by Revenue Divisional Commissioner (ND) K C Barik, Additional District Magistrate M C Bariha and Deputy Collector (Emergency) S K Jena.In the noon, the members visited Ghasiapada, Betrapada and Manoharipada accompanied by Sonepur Collector Gagan Kumar Swain. They interacted with the flood victims and assured them to forward their demands to the Centre.The team included Chief Engineer, Ministry of Transport and Highways, Sunil Kumar Verma, N C Dibakar of the Ministry of Agriculture, A K Satpathy, Regional Director, Health and Family Welfare, Bhubaneswar, and Superintendent Engineer, Mahanadi Eastern Region, Ambarish Nayak.
