CBI serving political masters: Srilakshmi

Taking serious exception to the CBI opposing the bail plea of the accused on the pretext of continued investigation, suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi’s counsel has said that the investigating agency is making the argument only to serve its political masters and its officers’ self-interests.

“You keep on saying that investigation is continuing. It is only for two points. One is to serve your political masters and the other to serve your self-interests,’’ Srilakshmi’s counsel V Surender Rao told a CBI court here on Thursday.

Taking indirect potshots at the investigating officer in the case, additional superintendent of police RM Khan,  Rao said that the officer, though transferred, was hanging on to his posting. “He is continuing as if he is the only officer in the agency. It is only a kind of game. Any officer who comes can also effectively look into the case,’’ Surender Rao said.

Khan was transferred to Mumbai but he continues to stay with the CBI here. Earlier Surender Rao produced before the court the medical records of Srilakshmi. The suspended IAS officer sought bail on medical grounds as she is suffering from low back pain.

CBI deputy legal advisor B Ravindranath wondered as to how Srilakshmi had not complained of ill health since January 6 when she was sent to prison but suddenly developed pain on August 25. Referring to the various medical records furnished by her, Ravindranath said he had suspicion about the documents. “These documents are made for a particular purpose,’’ he said. When judge Durga Prasad Rao asked whether he meant that the documents were manipulated, Ravindranath said, “I am not saying they are manipulated but made for a purpose.’’ The special court posted the orders for October 8.
