CHENNAI: Even continuous spells of rain on Sunday could not dampen the enthusiasm of job seekers in the city, as a steady stream of them attended the job fair conducted by Don Bosco Vazhikaatti (DBV) at the Don Bosco School in Egmore. More than 75 companies from retail, manufacturing, business, ITES, BPO and IT sectors put up stalls at the job fair. An annual event conducted by DBV, this year’s fair is deemed special, as it is a part of the bicentennial celebrations of Saint Don Bosco’s birth.The fair attracted not only fresh graduates, but also experienced candidates.Registrations had been held for the past two weeks at various parts of the city such as Nungambakkam, Perambur, Thiruvottriyur, Little Mount and also at the sub-centres of DBV.Over 2,500 candidates had registered themselves for the fair. By noon, nearly 2,000 walk-in candidates had attended it. Fr Leo Joseph sdb, Director of DBV, said, “About 60 per cent of those seeking jobs will get placed by the companies.The greatest demand is from the manufacturing sector.” Fr Leo also said that there was more demand for IT and diploma holders, technical people and arts and science graduates.“There are openings for people with a basic engineering degree. But they are not too much in demand.There is a lot of scope for jobs involving creative skills,” he said.Companies such as MRF, Perfetti van melle, TVS Sundaram, Godrej, Shoppers Stop, Orchid Chemicals, SRM Hotels, Sundaram Medicals, MPL Motors, Royal Enfield, Taj Hotels and Tata Consultancy were a part of the fair.
