Beijing: Ukraine's heptathlon silver medallist Lyudmila Blonska is facing a life ban after the International Olympic Committee confirmed on Friday that her B sample confirmed she had committed a doping offence.
The 30-year-old, who has already served a two year ban after testing positive for a steroid in 2003, failed the dope test after methyl-testosterone, an anabolic steroid, showed up on it.
The 2007 world heptathlon silver medallist and 2008 world indoor pentathlon champion, who underwent the test on August 16, has been stripped of her medal and expelled from the Games.
Her medal will now go to American Hyleas Fountain while Tatiana Chernova of Russia gets the bronze. Another Ukrainian, Nataliia Dobrinska, won the gold.
Blonska's place in Friday evening's long jump final has been taken by Nigerian Blessing Okagbare, who finished 13th in qualifying.
The IOC have asked the sport's governing body the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) to consider any further action within its own competence.
It has also warned that it might take action against the athlete's coach, her husband Sergei Blonska, but will await the outcome of a meeting of the Ukrainian athletics federation on August 29 concerning him.
Blonska's was the fifth drugs case of the Beijing Games.
Spanish cyclist Maria Isabel Moreno tested positive for EPO, North Korean shooting medalist Kim-Jong-Su for betablockers and Vietnamese gymnast Do Thi Ngan Thuong for a diuretic, while Greece's rarely seen 2004 Olympic 400 metres hurdles champion Fani Halkia, tested positive for steroids at a training camp.
The IOC has taken 4,600 tests so far of the 5,000 they will carry out at the Games, which end on Sunday.
IOC President Jacques Rogge had surmised prior to the Games that he expected between 30 to 40 cases, based on an extrapolation from previous Games and the amount of failed tests in comparison to the number of tests carried out.
