Shiv Sena chief says he will watch controversial film and get it banned if it shows Dawood in good light.

Mumbai: The Shiv Sena will not allow Black Friday, a film on the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai, if it shows gangster Dawood Ibrahim in “positive light”, said party chief Bal Thackeray on Wednesday.

"I have not yet seen the film but I will see it in a couple of days. If the film shows Dawood Ibrahim in a positive light, we will ensure that there is a boycott of the film. We cannot tolerate this," Thackeray said at a press conferene.

Asked if he had watched the film, he said: "No, I have not yet watched it, but if you all are insisting, then I will do so in the next couple of days."

The film shows Dawood, who is the main accused in the blasts case, organising the attacks, supplying explosives and funding the attackers.

Black Friday was made in 2004 but was banned after accused in the blasts appealed before court that it may prejudice people against them.

The film is based on journalist S Hussain Zaidi’s investigative book of the same name. The film was released on February 9 this year and has earned critical acclaim.
