BJP gets friendly with UKD to form govt
The BJP has stepped up efforts to narrow down differences with Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) in the state.

New Delhi: The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has stepped up efforts to narrow down differences with Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD), which has extended issue-based support to the saffron party for the formation of government in Uttarakhand.

The party is holding talks with the UKD leadership, which has handed over a nine-point Charter of Demands to BJP including shifting of capital to Gairsain. The UKD is a key regional party, which won three seats in the Assembly polls.

UKD now wants to ensure that BJP meets its demands, which is one seat short of majority, party leaders said.

The BJP would send a reply to the UKD letter detailing which all issues the party could agree with, said BJP party General Secretary Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank.

Once the BJP sends its reply to UKD mentioning the issues it could agree upon, the party would take a final decision on extending support to the saffron party, UKD leaders said.

An11-member committee headed by UKD president B D Raturi has already been formed to hold talks on extending support to BJP.
