Advani, Rajnath Singh insist on the need of bringing back POTA.

New Delhi: Leader of Opposition L K Advani on Saturday condemned the serial blasts in Ahmedabad and said it was an indication of a “terrorist offensive” against India.

“I strongly condemn the serial bomb blast in different places in Ahmedabad, coming just a day after a serial bomb explosion in Bangalore. These are pointer to sinister terrorist offensive against the nation. I cover my condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the bomb blasts,” a statement issued by Advani read.

Later, addressing a press conference, Advani also said he had spoken with Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and insisted upon the need to have a tough terror law. He also said it was worth looking into whether the states on target were BJP-ruled.

“I spoke to Modi and enquired about the situation on the latest terrorist act has once again highlighted the need for a firm and effective anti-terrorist legal frame work. The legislative Assembly of Gujarat has passed a law on the line of MCOCA. It is pending with President for assent from past four years. I demand the union Government to immediately recommend presidential assent to this legislation whose need has been further underscored by the repeal of POTA,” he said.

BJP President Rajnath Singh too condemned the blasts and blamed the Central government. “Even after Afzal was given death sentence by SC, he has not been hanged. It implies that morale of terrorists will be boosted. No firm law has been framed yet. BJP is ready to join hands with Government to combat terrorism,” he said.

President Pratibha Patil too strongly condemned the serial blasts that rocked Ahmedabad. In her message, Patil asked people to maintain peace and communal harmony. She expressed deep shock at the incident and said that perpetrators were targeting the peace and harmony of the country.

Terror hit the Gujarat city this evening with nearly a dozen low intensity blasts that left at least 20 people injured. She also wished those injured in the blasts a speedy recovery.
