Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) has disconnected the power supply to the stadium ahead of the SRH vs CSK IPL match scheduled at Uppal Stadium on Friday. The move comes after the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) failed to clear the electricity bill amounting to Rs 1,63,94, 521 (Rs 1.6 crore approximately).
The power department had served several notices to the HCA to clear pending dues amounting to Rs 3,05,12,790 crore. Out of this amount, Rs 1,41,18, 269 was the principal dues and Rs 1.6 crore was the surcharge amount. The HCA had requested TSSPDCL to waive this surcharge in view of the pandemic.
However, the electricity board refused to do so and sent them another notice in February this year to pay the amount.
“In this regard, it is to state that your request for waiver of such surcharge for delay in payment cannot be considered as per the terms and conditions of HT tariff supply clause number 1.2.1 of tariff orders approved by TSERC and as per regulation no. 5 of 2024 in clause no. 4.4,” the notice read.
“In case the consumers do not pay the bills by the due date mentioned, additional charges for delayed payment of bills shall apply as per tariff orders issued from time to time. Hence it is requested to pay the surcharge amount of Rs 1,63,94,521 within 15 days from the date of receipt of this notice. Otherwise, the service will be liable for disconnection without further notice,” it added.
Since the HCA failed to pay this amount, the power supply to the stadium has been disconnected. Affiliated to the Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI), the HCA governs cricket activities in Hyderabad and other districts of Telangana. It had been frequently in the news over corruption allegations in the last two years.
