Barclays Championship: Atwal slips in 2nd round
Arjun Atwal (71) slipped to the tied 59th spot after the second round.

New Jersey: A late slump spoilt his card as Indian golfer Arjun Atwal (71) slipped to the tied 59th spot after the second round of the Barclays Championship which has been shortened to 54 holes due to the Hurricane Irene threat here.

Atwal, who was two-under through 13 holes in the first round when play was stopped on Thursday, completed his remaining round on Friday and found two birdies to go to four-under that looked very good in a shortened tournament.

In the second round, Atwal looked even better at three-under through 13 holes, before hitting the slump.

He had birdied the 11th, 18th, first and fourth before he bogeyed the fifth, sixth and ninth to slip down.

Matt Kuchar, looking to become a repeat winner at Barclays, added a six-under 65 to his first round 63 and moved to 14-under, one shot ahead of Dustin Johnson (63) and veteran Vijay Singh (64).

It is the first time that a FedEx Cup event has been reduced to 54 holes and if the third round is not complete before the rain and Hurricane Irene arrives on Saturday, it could well be a 36-hole event but Fedex points will still be distributed as official.

At 10-under were Justin Rose (65), Aaron Baddeley (66) and Padraig Harirngton (67).
