CHENNAI: Every year Kartik Fine Arts organises an award function to conclude its 22nd Kodai Nataka Vizha. This time,  the cultural organisation in association with Nalli organised a grand award distribution function at Narada Gana Sabha, TTK Road on Wednesday evening. The Nadaka Vizha which began on April 29 concluded on May 10.Chief guest Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti, L Sabaretnam, chairman, Kartik Fine Arts, actor Ramya Krishnan and thespian Koothapiran participated in the award function and gave away awards to the winners. A total of 24 awards were given in various categories such as Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Light Company, Best Scene Company among others. Madhava Boovaraga Moorthy and Pothalingam won the first and second places respectively for their plays Narkalikku Idamillai and Andha Saravananai Chutri. The award for Best Actress went to the artistes of the same plays. Uma Shankar won the first place for Andha Saravananai Chutri play and Malathi Sampath for Narkalikku Idamillai. The Best Character Actor award was won by Jai Surya and Madhu for Karuppu Aadugal and Swasam plays respectively. CV Chandramohan won Best Director Award (first prize) for his play Swasam that was inaugurated on April 29. Talking about his play, Chandramohan said it dealt with delirium and how it affects a software professional. “But a friend of his helps him to recover from the disorder. This play was to create awareness among the younger generation,” said Chandramohan. His play also fetched him a Best Director Trophy, instituted by K Balachander. Swasam also bagged second place in Best Drama Production and won  the Best Light Company award. The second place for Best Director went to Augusto for his play Andha Saravananai Chutri. Best Comedian went to Ananthu for Neiyandi Vilas (Pure Vegetarian) play and second place to Krupa for the same play. Best Child Artist went to Lakshminarayanan for the play Kanmaniye Pesu. Artiste MB Moorthy won both the Best Actor trophy instituted by Vivekshankar in memory of V Gopalakrishnan and also the Best Dialogue Writer,  instituted by Susilapadmanabhan in memory of her husband TN Padmanabhan. After the award function, Natakapriya S Ve Shekar’s comedy play Allwa was staged for the audience.
