COIMBATORE: It is a common thing applicants seeking admissions to various colleges and universities being rejected for not filing necessary documents or wrong papers, sometimes even for not submitting the listed certificates.But, in a strange case in Coimbatore district, the application of a girl aspirant after she submitted a nativity certificate that is ‘unacceptable’ to the Anna University authorities holding the counselling for admission to engineering courses. The nativity certificate has been issued in Tamil and this turned out to be the reason for the rejection of her application. Wasn’t that shocking.Anisha of Somayampalayam scored 1014 marks in Plus-Two and applied for an engineering seat under merit quota allotted by Anna University. However she was shocked to see on the website that her application was rejected because her nativity certificate was in Tamil. She submitted a petition to the Collector, requesting his help to get a nativity certificate in English. Collector M Karunakaran ordered the tahsildar to issue a nativity certificate in English so that a girl can take part in the single window counselling conducted by Anna University to get an engineering seat.Apart from this, the Collector also assured the candidate that he would contact the university authorities. Anisha thanked the Collector for taking immediate action.
