At least three police personnel were injured after locals turned violent and indulged in brick-batting at Sonari police station in Jamshedpur on Wednesday, police said.
A large crowd of Tiloo Bhatta locality had assembled in front of the police station to stage demonstration demanding action against a private security guard and a constable for arresting a youth on charges of mobile phone theft on Tuesday night, police said.
The crowd comprising women turned violent and forcibly entered the thana premises, superintendent of police Karthik S said. The crowd turned violent and started brick-batting on the police station when the police personnel on duty tried to prevent them.
In view of the situation, additional forces were deployed to maintain law and order and chase away the mob, he said. At least three police personnel were injured in the brick-batting on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, the locals allegedly pelted stones on a police team, which had gone to conduct raid in Tiloo Bhatta locality to arrest those who had indulged in brick-batting.
Karthik said the local residents on Tuesday had also created ruckus in the Sonari police outpost where the accused Raju was brought for interrogation. They managed to set free Raju from the clutches of the police.
