ONGOLE: Controversial evangelist and Praja Shakti Party founder Kilari Anand Paul, known as K A Paul, was arrested in Ongole in Prakasam district in the early hours of Monday on the charge of conspiring to kill a person.According to police, Paul had planned to murder one Koteswara Rao, who is an accused in the murder of Paul’s brother David Raju at Addakula in Mahbubnagar district in February 2010.Two of Paul’s followers were arrested on Sunday evening. Police registered a case against Paul under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy to abduct) and 307 (attempt to murder).Police said Paul, who had been staying in a hotel in Ongole for the last three days, lodged a complaint with Ongole taluk police against Koteswara Rao that he was facing a threat to his life from the latter.Police detained Koteswara Rao and questioned him over these allegations. During interrogation, Koteswara Rao admitted to murdering David Raju on Paul’s directions, but the police are yet to take cognizance of this piece of information.According to deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Rajanikanth, the police were offered `1 crore as a bribe by Paul for killing Koteswara Rao in a fake encounter. FROM: P1Alternatively, he asked the police to set Koteshwar Rao free so that his men could ‘take care’ of him. Paul allegedly made this offer of a bribe to Ongole taluk inspector T Srinivasa Rao and even gave Rs 3 lakh as advance. It is said the entire conversation between the police and Paul was recorded by police using a spy camera.District SP K Raghuram Reddy said they would also book Paul under the Prevention of Corruption Act as well. Paul was produced before a judge at his residence and was remanded in judicial custody for 15 days. He is lodged at the district prison here.There had been property disputes between Paul and his brother, which led Paul to lodge a complaint with the police at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district in the past. Paul owns more than 10 acres at Bhogapuram where the Gum (Gospel for Unreached Millions) City was established. Paul owns a similar Gum City in Visakhapatnam on a two-acre plot by the side of NH 5, close to the Port Hospital.
