HYDERABAD: The state government is likely to hold an all-party meeting to discuss the draft policy on land allotments in the state soon. The draft policy has been circulated to all political parties and the meeting would be convened after the chief minister finalises the dates. The new policy on land allotments has been drafted to ensure scientific and judicious allotment of land, rational norms on fixing cost of land, and also to attract investments to the state. It was also envisaged to ensure that only the required land be allotted to the companies. The officials pointed out that some companies which were allotted lands, but could not set up their units had to return the land to the government.Apart from drafting the new land policy, the state government has also decided to launch a special drive in all major cities and towns in an effort to protect the government lands from landgrabbers.A similar drive which was launched in Hyderabad about six months ago yielded good results and the officials succeeded in protecting about 120 land parcels worth Rs 800 crore in and around the state capital. The total vacant government land identified in Hyderabad is valued at Rs 12,660 crore.Out of which land worth Rs 4,735 crore is vacant, while the remaining land worth Rs 7,925 crore is under litigation.Speaking to reporters here on Friday, revenue minister N Raghuveera Reddy said that district collectors have been asked to launch this drive to identify and protect government lands. The officials were instructed to construct compound walls in all government lands.Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has directed the officials to expedite cases relating to litigant lands pending in the court. A panel of eminent advocates may be constituted to effectively argue the cases. As a special case the chief minister has agreed to a proposal to appoint an additional advocate general to deal with the litigant land issues apart from prohibiting the registration of government lands.Responding to a query on delay in issuing loan eligibility cards to tenant farmers, the minister said the revenue officials were working in tandem with the bank authorities to benefit maximum number of farmers. As against the target of issuing loan eligibility cards to 24 lakh tenant farmers during this kharif season, the government has been able to issue only six lakh cards.
