TIRUCHY: AIADMK candidate M Paranjothi on Thursday defeated his nearest DMK rival and three-time minister KN Nehru by a thumping margin of 14,684 votes in the Tiruchy West by-election. In Puducherry, the ruling All India NR Congress retained its Indira Nagar seat in the crucial by-election with its candidate A Tamilselvane defeating his nearest rival V Aroumougame of Congress by over 8,000 votes.
