Lucknow: Lucknow District Magistrate, Kaushal Raj Sharma, has suspended three Booth Level Officers (BLO) after the several names were missing from the voter list during the Municipal Elections.
The action comes after the state Election Commission questioned DM over the complaints and had him order a probe into the matter.
Voters had their raised voices after several names were found missing from the list, while, voting slips had not reached many others. The BLOs were also blamed for the low voting percentage during the second phase of polls.
During the second phase of municipal polls, only 37.57% polling was recorded in the state capital as complaints of missing names emerged on a large scale. People started posting photos of the voter list and vented out their anger on social media.
BJP stalwarts like Kalraj Mishra and Cabinet minister Rita Bahuguna Joshi could not cast their vote as the names were not on the list.
Talking to the media after the second phase, State Election Commissioner, SK Agarwal said, “After the voter list was updated, approximately 94 lakh voters were added and 80 lakh voters removed. There was a problem with the voters slip distribution and I have conveyed the message to the District Magistrate.”
“Prima facie, it appears that the problem of missing names was due to the carelessness of Booth Level Officers, who were responsible for the verification of voters’ list,” added Agarwal.
