Chengdu (China): India's Aditya Mehta on Monday defeated Zhu Yinghui of China in the wild card round of the International Snooker Championship being played here. With a winning score of 6-5, Aditya booked his seat in the last 32 of the tournament.
After winning the first frame comfortably, Aditya let a 50 point slip in the second frame and soon was trailing 1-2. He had a crucial break of 60 to go into the interval with an equal score of 2-2. The Indian took his lead in the fifth frame but lost out on the sixth to equal up again. After losing the seventh frame, he plunged back with a break of 129 with the score reading 4-4.
In the ninth frame he took lead with a break of 50 and sealed the match 6-5 in the decider. Talking about his win, the Arjuna Awardee said: "This was indeed a superb win for me and I take great pride in having won this match. We kept playing close until the end. Both of us had chances in the decider but I held on to win it on the last red. This is my first win at the Venue Stages of a major ranking event and is a good start of the tournament. I?m gearing up for the upcoming matches."
Aditya will play World No.10 Stuart Bingham of England in the first round on Tuesday.
