New Delhi: In an uncanny repeat of Prof Sabharwal murder on August 26 last year, students of Sagar University in Madhya Pradesh allegedly beat up a college principal on Friday night at about 11 pm.
The students, who were affiliated to the Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad, allegedly beat up the government college principal, Shivcharan Chaurasia, and his three young daughters following differences over holding the student union polls.
An FIR has been lodged at the Kotwali police station of Tikamgarh. Five people have been named in the FIR and police are looking for three more unidentified people. No one has been arrested so far.
The incident occurred on Friday night when the ABVP workers, led by its district unit general secretary Shailendra Awasthi, forcibly entered Chourasia's house by breaking the door in Rajmahal Colony and allegedly beat him and his three daughters, Additional Superintendent of Police Prembabu Sharma said.
The ABVP workers were annoyed over the measures enforced by Chourasia for conducting the student union polls, which are due on August 23-24.
Chourasia alleged that one of the attackers was carrying a pistol while others were armed with sticks and rods when they entered his house.
Last year on August 26, Prof Sabharwal was allegedly beaten to death by ABVP workers following his decision to cancel the student union polls in Ujjain's Madhav College.
