HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh is leading in Aadhaar card enrolment with 1.3 crore enrolments and a record number of 28 lakh Aadhaar numbers were generated as on June 4. While the work taken up in seven districts in phase-I of the Unique Identification (UID) project will be completed at the earliest, the departments concerned were instructed to complete the work on Aadhaar cards in all the 23 districts by March 31 next year.The civil supplies department acts as the registrar for seven districts and has taken up the enrolment in the districts of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Chittoor, Anantapur, East Godavari, Adilabad and Srikakulam under phase-I. All residents of Maheswaram in Ranga Reddy got Aadhar numbers while 25 out of 63 mandals in Anantapur, 17 out of 58 in East Godavari, seven out of 38 in Srikakulam, nine out of 52 in Adilabad and 13 out of 66 in Chittoor secured the numbers.The UID Authority of India (UIDAI) has adopted the multi-registrar model for issuing Aadhaar numbers to all the residents. The multi-registrar model provides the residents a choice to enrol at points operated by different registrars based on their convenience. The food and civil supplies and the rural development departments were nominated as registrars. Reviewing the progress of Aadhar cards on Monday, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy said Aadhaar cards will be made mandatory for getting ration, pensions, and Indiramma housing.Civil supplies minister D Sreedhar Babu, chief secretary SV Prasad among others attended the meeting.
