BANGALORE: ‘Creative For Play’, a workshop focusing on encouraging children to interpret and think laterally and also discover how a story can lend itself to diverse expressions across media - theatre, prose, art, craft and blogging, was conducted in the city recently. Conducted by a group of talented professionals from the field of story-telling and theatre, the interactive five-day workshop called ‘The Many Faces of a Story — Theatre and beyond’, brought children the experience of ‘The Night the Sea came Home’ - a play written for children aged 7-12 years, come alive. In this workshop, the play’s core themes were examined and explored across various mediums — like blogging, art, craft, performances, character enactment, play readings, song writing and gaming storyboards. The purpose of the workshop was to give children a wider platform for expression using common themes. The stories employ themes such as the environment, oceans and climate change with funny, endearing characters human, aquatic and superhuman. The workshop concluded with a stage show — an enactment finale which was a true tribute to their creative work through a short performance by the children using props designed by them. Children also designed their own book cover for their folder that contained their entire work for the week: diary blog, set design, character study, music composed and art and craft.
